Transportation is a vital service in all countries. 12% of Australians regularly take public transport to and from work including - train, bus, tram/light rail, ferry/boats. In our ever changing environment it is important that passengers feel safe when taking public transport. Australia and other countries are not immune to threats of terrorism and other crimes. The terrorist attacks in London in July 2005 are a perfect example of where a public transport system was a direct target.

Jacques Long Line Public Address System for Perth Suburban Rail Network - Public Transport Authority:
A directive of the West Australian Government and Public Transport Authority (PTA), a 'Safer Stations' programme was initiated in 2004 to address public concerns over safety at many Perth railway stations. With the focus on improving safety and providing a more secure environment to rail passengers, PTA released for tender a specification document.
This document called for an integrated CCTV; Security Management; and Public Address System. Jacques were chosen as the Long Line Public Address (LLPA) System supplier due to the system's innovative features and design flexibility. The Jacques LLPA System provides a means of delivering high quality Public Address announcements, and background music to all stations in the Perth Suburban Rail Network. Most stations have at least 1 or 2 PA zones, with several stations having up to 12 PA zones. Overall, there are more than 100 Public Address zones across the network.
"Public Transport Authority's Urban Security Initiatives Project (USIP) was designed to help Transperth grow its customer base by ushering in a new standard of safety and security across the urban rail network. This project introduced a raft of innovative features to support our transit guard officers. These include improved lighting, emergency call buttons on platforms, and linked public address and passenger information systems. It has become a national model for rail and counter-terrorism initiatives and has attracted attention from around the world." - Public Transport Authority's Planning and Infrastructure Minister, Alannah MacTiernan.
